<abstract>
Background: Existing research has focused mostly on odontogenic lesions of the jaws, therefore, due to the lack of sufficient studies and the importance of non odontogenic lesions, this study aimed to evaluate the epidemiologic profile of these lesions in a series of biopsied lesions.
Materials and Methods: To conduct this retrospective study, the oral pathology department archive of Isfahan Azad Dental School from 2010 to 2025 was reviewed for lesions with definitive diagnosis of non-odontogenic lesions. Demographic and clinical information of each lesion was recorded. The results were analyzed using the chi-square statistical test in SPSS26 software.
Results: Among 1054 jaw bone lesions 39 nonodontogenic lesions were found( 3.7%). Age of the subjects at the time of biopsy ranged from 8 to 59 years with a mean of 35.7 ± 12.3 .The most common non odontogenic lesion were tumors(38.5%) .Lesions were mostly seen in lower jaw(93.3%) , which was related to the type of disease(P = 0.04). Lesions most commonly occurred in females (61.5% ) although Chi square statistical test did not show this finding as significant (p=0.41) .One patient used long-term medication, and two had systemic diseases with no relation to the bone pathology diagnosed.
Conclusion: Non-odontogenic benign tumors were the most common type of non-odontogenic lesion in this study. Non-odontogenic lesions were mostly tumors seen in female patients and in mandible. For better understanding of these lesions future multicenter studies are recommended.
